Arènes de Nîmes, Maison Carrée et Tour Magne (Culturespaces)

City: Nimes
Country: France
Year Founded: 70 A.D.
Type of Institution: Archaeology

Arenes de Nimes, Maison Caree and Tour Magne are three ancient Roman monuments in Nimes. The Arenes de Nimes is one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres and would have held 24,000 spectators across 34 rows of terraces when in use a gladiatorial arena. It is still in use today as a venue for bullfighting. The Maison Caree is a 15-metre high Roman temple and the Tour Magne is the only remnant of ancient Augustan fortifications.
