The Hohenschönhausen Memorial is a former remand prison run by the former East German Ministry of State Security (‘Stasi’). The goal of the memorial is to help visitors to understand the realities of life in Eastern Germany between 1945 – 1989. Former inmates conduct tours and share eyewitness accounts. The permanent exhibition displays over 500 objects and 300 photographs.
