Blenheim Palace: 300 years of captivating tales

Antenna is teaming up Blenheim Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to create multimedia tours that will bring to life the many fascinating stories of the historic UK landmark. With more than 300 years to cover, that’s no small task.

The new tour features interviews with employees, curators and volunteers, as well as atmospheric music, impressive design and historical video footage which help build a full and immersive picture of life at the palace.


Famously, the country house is where Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill was born. It’s also the family home of the current Duke of Marlborough, built between 1705 and 1722. The tour will reveal the family’s remarkable history, including that of the formidable first Duchess of Marlborough, who despite famously quarrelling with everyone from Queen Anne to her own children, rose to be one of the most influential women of her time.

The tour, which will use Antenna’s M3 multimedia devices, will also recount anecdotes from members of staff. Visitors, for instance, will be surprised to hear what happened when a crow flew into the grand dining room on Christmas Day!

Attention to detail

Everything, from paintings, ceilings and tapestries to furniture, sculpture and the incredible porcelain will each have its own story. As visitors explore the palace, image galleries, interactive timelines and content hotpots will draw attention to details throughout key rooms, such as the Great Hall and the “Saloon” (the State Dining Room).

The palace’s splendid architecture will be one of the highlights of the tour. From the legend of maverick dramatist-turned-architect Sir John Vanbrugh and his vision for the site, right up to the refurbishment of the State Rooms in the intricate style of Versailles, no stone will be left unturned.

Innovative technology

The innovative data reporting capability built into Antenna’s M3 multimedia devices allows Blenheim Palace to understand how their visitors move through the building and therefore constantly evolve and improve their tour.

The tours are translated into nine languages and with the ability to update content whenever desired via Tourbuilder, Blenheim Palace will now be able to give visitors reasons to come back to the historic home time and again, always discovering a wealth of new facts and fascinating tales.
