We did it! Hirshhorn Eye takes home GLAMi, W3 and IDCA awards

September 26, 2018

Antenna’s innovative collaboration with the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden has won the award for best app at the prestigious International Design and Communication Awards (IDCAs).

Despite tough competition, the instant mobile guide – Hirshhorn Eye – claimed the top spot (25 September 2018) in Chicago. A collaboration led by Antenna with curators, educators, Linked by Air (development) and Captain and the Fox (videos), the app is first of its kind. Each piece of content is unlocked by scanning the art on view using the latest in image recognition technology. Visitors don’t need to download the app, instead just visiting https://hi.si.edu/ on nearly any smartphone to come eye-to-eye with artists.

The guide features more than 150 exclusive pieces of multimedia audio and video including insightful interviews with renowned artists Yayoi Kusama, Annette Lemieux, Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons.

UPDATE: We’re thrilled to announce that the ‘Hirshhorn Eye’ app has also one two accolades at the W3 Awards, which is judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms.

The awards are:

GOLD AWARD for “Mobile Apps/Sites Cultural”

GOLD AWARD for “Mobile Features Best Use of Mobile Camera

The W³ Awards celebrates digital excellence by honoring outstanding Websites, Web Marketing, Video, Mobile Sites/Apps & Social content created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers, and creators worldwide. Simply put, the W³ is the first major web competition to be accessible to the biggest agencies, the smallest firms, and everyone in between. Small firms are as likely to win as Fortune 500 companies and international agencies.

UPDATE 12th APRIL 2019: We’re even more thrilled to announce that our ‘Hirshhorn Eye’ app has also just won the award for ‘Museum-Wide Guide or Program” at the prestigious Museums and the Web GLAMi awards. This category is for a digital app, tool or experience designed to facilitate visitor way-finding or engagement with a museum collection.
