What do you get if you match image recognition with unmissable content and an easy to use app? A smash hit! The fruit of Antenna’s partnership with the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden – the Hirshhorn Eye or “Hi” – has now won a bevy of highly-regarded international awards, including:
All that follows on the heels of an incredible write-up in tech bible Mashable which describes the app as “actually cool” (Mashable is the go to consumer focused publication for technology, and rarely picks up on museum apps) and a “mobile guide that makes pulling your phone out in a museum worth it” – high praise indeed!
Antenna’s Mary Kostell with Hilary-Morgan Watt, Digital Engagement Manager at the Hirshhorn
A collaboration led by Antenna with Hirshhorn curators, educators, Linked by Air (development) and Captain and the Fox (videos), we’ve created an app which makes the most of incredible stories and the latest technology.
The guide features over 150 exclusive pieces of audio and video including insightful, unexpected interviews with renowned artists Yayoi Kusama, Annette Lemieux, Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons. Each piece of multimedia is unlocked by scanning the art on view using image recognition technology – a first of its kind. And the experience is seamless. Visitors don’t even need to download the app, just visit https://hi.si.edu/ on nearly any smartphone to come eye-to-eye with artists.
