Tech Startup Focuses on Museum Holy Grail: Indoor Mapping

This past week was Demo Day for “500 Startups”, an accelerator and seed fund headquartered in Silicon Valley.  The accelerator runs a four-month program for startups providing mentorship, trainings with startup experts, office space and investment.   TechCrunch just reported their favorites from the floor.  To me, InnerSpace seems most promising for our field, taking a seriously entrepreneurial approach to the question of low-cost, easy-access to indoor mapping.  As we all know, this is the wayfinding Holy Grail for Museums – if technologists could create something that functions as well as GPS does outdoors, no visitor would ever be lost again in the Egyptian wing looking for a Sol Lewitt painting.  The InnerSpace mapping and location platform seeks to not only to crack that nut, it captures data on how people interact inside the mapped space as well.
