St. Helena Island is one of the most isolated islands in the world. Until very recently the island was only accessible every 3 weeks, via a 5-day boat trip! (A new 6-hour flight now connects to South Africa)
Longwood’s house on St. Helena Island is famous for being the place of Napoleon’s exile from 1815 until his death in 1821. Through the exhibits and the recently introduced audio tour, you can now spend hours in the house and in the garden, musing whistfully on the last years of this fascinating character who led a remarkable life.
How did Napleon, once the most powerful and feared man in the world, spend his last years? What went on in the mind of someone whom many considered a flawed genius, under the knowledge that freedom was to be denied him until death. With reference to some key facts like the book he was writing about his hero Julius Caeser, it is certainly one of our most revealing and unusual tours!
