How Museo Egizio di Torino manages 1,600 group visits per month

Client profile

Museo Egizio di Torino houses one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the world—they have more than 30,000 objects, with 6,500 on display. Among these, the most significant is an extraordinary statue of Ramses II, one of the world’s most significant papyrus collections, and the Tomb of Kha, which dates to 3,500 BC.

The Museo Egizio di Torino (Egyptian Museum in Turin) underwent a significant reorganization in 2014 following the appointment of Dr. Christian Greco as the new director. Antenna International, selected as the tour content and device supplier, provided the museum with a 2-hour multimedia guide, a shorter 1-hour multimedia guide and a Family tour for individual guests and families visiting the site.

The Museo Egizio di Torino, who average 1,600 group visits per month, also needed a format to cater to their larger guest groups. These groups include visits organized through travel agencies, schools and more.

For museum staff to adequately provide group tours, Antenna provided the Museo Egizio di Torino with 1,000 Group Tour System devices. These devices allow guides to communicate with groups clearly while they admire and view the artefacts on display. Using disposable headsets, guests on the group tour listen to and follow the guide navigating through the museum.

The tour leaders, with help from the group tour system devices, can manage crowd control during peak museum visiting hours. These devices aid staff in managing guests within the crowded space. The museum often has two to three tours in progress at any given time, as well as individuals exploring the museum on their own. The devices also aid with noise pollution, ensuring that guests hear what their tour guides are saying, and are not distracted by their surroundings.

Visitors to the Museo Egizio di Torino are very pleased with their experience. Many have left positive reviews of the guided tours:

“We took a guided tour with an Egyptologist appointed by the museum itself. It was 2 hours well spent and interesting.” -Visitor, Brazil

“The museum is absolutely huge, but the tour guide did a magnificent job putting things into perspective and explaining”. -Visitor, Italy

“I’ll probably never get to cruise the Nile and see the museums in Egypt, so this was a must do when in Turin. Wow, wow, wow. So glad we booked a 2 hr. private guided tour (thru Get Your Guide). There is so much to see, our guide, Salvatore, kept us on track and made sure we saw all the highlights.” -Visitor, USA
