Full service for Musée du Quai Branly Jacques Chirac

Client profile
The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac in Paris, France, hosts a hugely diverse collection spanning Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. The museum houses 450,000 objects, of which 3,500 are on display at any given time, in both permanent and temporary, themed exhibits. A selection of works is  also displayed in the Pavillon des Sessions of the Louvre Museum.
The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac has used audio tours for its main exhibition since its opening in 2006.
In 2014, The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac sought to update its tour operations and devices, while still using their already-made audio content. In addition to this, the museum wanted to create audio tours for their frequent temporary exhibitions and content for family and children who visit the permanent collection.
The museum needed a service provider able to perform tour operations, supply equipment, use and update existing content, and develop new material for temporary exhibitions, and a family experience. They needed a flexible team who could offer both a full-service and bespoke solution.
In 2014, Antenna International partnered with The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac to provide the following services:
  • On-site staffing to perform tour operations, including device distribution
  • Brand-new equipment/devices for audio tours, utilising the latest technology in tour devices
  • Tour content for temporary exhibitions that can be downloaded in the iOS and GooglePlay store.
  • Interactive content for a new family tour
Antenna provided a bespoke solution for The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, updating the existing tour to reflect the ways in which the museography evolved and artworks changed.
For temporary exhibitions, Antenna collaborates with the curatorial team to create unique interview-based tours, with both French and foreign curators sharing stories about and insights into the exhibitions they organise.
For the Family tour, Antenna collaborated closely with the museum team to create an engaging and fun linear tour for families to enjoy. The tour starts by offering the visitor to a short quiz about their personal tastes. Based on their answers, the user is then placed on one of four paths for their journey through the museum. During the tour, visitors can expect over 20 different points of interest, including commentaries, games and quizzes for total engagement.
Also, Antenna parterned with one of France’s leading experts in accessibility to develop a sign-language tour with more than 70 videos in French Sign Language.
The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac is very pleased with Antenna’s work, with plans for more content to be produced and to introduce a new innovative approach involving binaural sound in 2018.
“In the logical continuation of the years of fruitful collaboration between our two structures, we hope to be able, thanks to this project, to value both the innovation capacities of Antenna and the content of our exhibitions.” Olivier Boasson, Director of Audience Services
Visitors to the museum say:
  • “The temporary exhibition ‘Persona’ was excellent (good collision of modern art and anthropology). Definitely worth getting the audio guide for.” Visitor
  • “Good child-specific audio-guides and interactive exhibits for kids and students (things to touch, movies to watch, music to listen to, etc.). Highly recommend!” Visitor, Washington D.C. U.S.
